AWARDS FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS
Awards for Young Musicians is a UK arts charity and believes that all musically talented young people should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential, whatever their background. Their key criteria for their grants (for young musicians aged 5-17) are musical talent and financial need. Award winners receive flexible funding of up to £2,000 towards musical costs (like tuition, instrument costs or travel) plus individual support to cater to personal circumstances.

THE PRINCE’S TRUST
Music Network – Opportunities for disadvantaged young people aged 14-25 to develop their music, by giving access to training, recording opportunities and support for live performance. THE SNOWDON TRUST
A charity that assists physically and sensory disabled people to access vocational and academic courses in the UK by awarding grants. Grants help cover additional costs that students incur as a result of their disability and where available statutory funding does not cover them. Costs include vital support such as sign language interpreters, people to take notes, computers, specialist software, wheelchairs or special accommodation and equipment. About 100 grants are awarded each year, ranging from £250 to £2,500. Besides giving financial grants, the trust also takes an active interest in individuals, offering encouragement to students during their studies and beyond.

Specialist Schools

BIRMINGHAM CONSERVATOIRE JUNIOR SCHOOL
The Junior Conservatoire offers specialist training to young musicians between the ages of eight and 18 with exceptional potential, and the ability to achieve that potential. Open on 30 Saturdays each year during school term using the Conservatoire’s full facilities. Courses include classical music, jazz, chamber music, classical music from the north Indian subcontinent and A Level music. Strong emphasis is put on performance through weekly platforms and termly chamber music recitals, as well as regular concerts for the larger ensembles in the Adrian Boult Hall. BRIT SCHOOL
The BRIT School is a one of a kind free Performing Arts and Technology School. It is an independent state funded City College for the Technology of the Arts, dedicated to education and vocational training for the performing arts, media, art and design and the technologies that make performance possible. The School aims to provide a high quality education for 14 to 19-year-olds through a specialist curriculum. Performing and creative arts with their related technologies are at its core and contribute to a curriculum aimed at developing the whole person. Accepts students from most of Greater London and some parts of Kent and Surrey and a small percentage of applicants from outside this area if they show unusual merit.

CENTRE FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS
Since its founding in 1970, the Centre for Young Musicians has provided high quality progressive music training for talented children from all of London’s boroughs and beyond. The Centre is based close to Waterloo and the South Bank. More than 420 young musicians aged 8 to 18 attend the Saturday Centre for 32 weeks of the school year, each following an individual programme of study across a range of genres from classical to jazz, gamelan, folk and music theatre. The Centre also offers Holiday Courses ranging from Junior and Intermediate Courses (up to Grade 6 level) to an Orchestra and Windband. The Centre is committed to providing excellence in achievement alongside wide access. The CYM Saturday Centre is a Centre for Advanced Training within the Department for Education’s Music & Dance Scheme, and as a Division of the Guildhall School since 2009, CYM also plays a part in the Guildhall Young Artists progression routes, from primary education right through to graduate and post-graduate studies in music.

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH MUSIC SCHOOL
The City of Edinburgh Music School is a national specialist music school based across Broughton High School and Flora Stevenson Primary School. The music school enables talented young musicians to continue their general education whilst receiving expert tuition with the best music teaching professionals. The City of Edinburgh Council will offer places only to those children who, in the opinion of the panel, have a musical talent and personal motivation of such a degree as to justify a highly-specialised form of education.

GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC & DRAMA JUNIOR DEPARTMENT
Junior Guildhall is a specialist Saturday School offering advanced training to young people between the ages of 4 and 18. The students are able to combine their Junior Guildhall training with their general education in local schools. They come together to experience and learn about music and drama under the guidance of staff drawn from London’s orchestras and freelance professionals. Most of the students go on to study their chosen discipline full-time at undergraduate level, eventually making careers in the profession, though others can, and do, move into totally different fields.

LONDON COLLEGE OF MUSIC (University of West London)
LCM Junior College is a Saturday performing arts school for young people in West London. It is part of the London College of Music at the University of West London: the largest provider of musical education in the UK. MUSIC SCHOOL OF DOUGLAS ACADEMY

NATIONAL CHILDRENS’ CHOIR OF GREAT BRITAIN
Over 250 members in Junior and Senior Choirs.  Young singers are able to join from ages 9 – 19, and each choir member is encouraged to develop their ability within a supportive environment. The choir meets twice a year for residential courses.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S WIND ORCHESTRA
NCWOis the umbrella initials of the original charitable trust – the National Children’s Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, formed in 1984, There are now three wind orchestras and three classical orchestral groups. The six groups are chosen by audition around the winter half term period, and those selected attend a residential course the following Easter at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire.

Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) is a specialist term-time only Saturday school offering advanced training to musicians between the ages of 8 and 18.     St Mary’s Music School is Scotland’s only independent specialist music school offering music and academic education to musically gifted children aged 9-19 years. Junior Trinity is a Saturday Music Department for 3-19 year olds. FELICITY BELFIELD MUSIC TRUST
To enable students to have an instrument worthy of their talents. Instruments loaned to students of any age up to 21, until they are 25, when they must be returned to the Trust or purchased. Sometimes assistance provided towards fees or extra courses. Most students recommended by teacher and have to prove exceptional ability and need. Those from West County have priority. BENSLOW MUSICAL INSTRUMENT LOAN SCHEME

AGAR TRUST
The aim of the Agar Trust is to address the challenges faced by young people (8-21) resident in rural Scotland, who demonstrate exceptional musical ability and potential, and wish to further their musical education. To apply you must be aged between 8 -21, with proven musical skills and exceptional musical ability and resident in a rural part of Scotland. You can apply for a grant towards attendance at an educational opportunity which relates directly to your musical studies.

ASSOCIATED BOARD OF THE ROYAL SCHOOLS OF MUSIC
Open to under- and postgraduate students, normally aged 17-26, to enable exceptionally talented young musicians study at one of the 4 Royal Schools of Music. Full course fees, contribution to air travel and £3,000 p.a. towards living expenses. AWARDS FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS (AYM)
The key criteria are musical talent and financial need.To be eligible you should be aged between 5 and 17, be living and studying in the UK and be an instrumentalist (unfortunately the AYM are not available for singers). Award winners will receive flexible funding towards musical costs and individual support, which may include mentoring, master classes with professional musicians, the chance to observe professional orchestras and other ensembles in rehearsal, free tickets to concerts and performance opportunities. LAWRENCE ATWELL’S CHARITY
Lawrence Atwell’s Charity can now offer help towards any of the following: – vocational training – below the level of a first undergraduate degree – ‘first step’ qualifications – that help people become qualified to work – the costs of finding a job – this is a new programme that we are launching, please contact us for further information. We can accept applications from individuals who are: – Aged between 16 and 26 inclusive and come from a household where the parent/s’ total gross annual income is less than £26,000 and has been for some time – UK citizens, refugees and asylum seekers. We are particularly interested in helping those people who: – Have few or no qualifications – Have limited or no support from their families – Have a disability – Are lone parents – Have fled persecution in their home countries or – Are ex offenders or at risk of offending. Martin Musical Scholarship Fund – (£30,000 – various awards – offered to all applicants) Assists exceptional musical talent with specialist and advanced study and helps bridge the gap between study and professional status. Awards for tuition fees and/or maintenance while studying in UK or Europe. Preference given to UK citizens under age 25. Much younger students of outstanding ability considered, to meet fees or travel expenses in attending junior conservatoires. ROYAL PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

Julius Isserlis Scholarship – Open to students aged 15-25 of any nationality, permanently resident in UK, in selected performing categories for study abroad. In 2022, we expect to offer a total of £30,000  to young instrumentalists to study abroad for up to two years. This will be split between a number of musicians, as decided by the panel. RUSHWORTH TRUST
The aim of the Trust is to further musical activities and education in the Liverpool area. It was established in 1954, with funds originally provided by Mr James Rushworth, Chairman of Rushworth’s Music House, in memory of his father William Rushworth. The original fund supports the promotion of musical activities and education within a radius of 60 miles of Liverpool Town Hall.  The fund is open to individuals and to organisations. Funds available are modest, and grants do not normally exceed £500 for individuals or £1,000 for organisations.  Awards are not usually repeated for a second or further year. THE TALBOT HOUSE TRUST
Established March 1992 for such charitable purpose or purposes as the Trustees shall from time to time determine. The Trustees meet annually in the Spring and grants are made for the following academic year. All completed application forms need to be received by the end of March in advance of a Trustees meeting.
