Leicester International Music Festival – Autumn lunchtime concert series

We are very excited to give you news of a special lunchtime concert series this Autumn being streamed by the Leicester International Music Festival.

Since the coronavirus lockdown and restrictions on live performances, our Recital Scheme artists have seen one concert after another cancelled, not only impacting disastrously on their financial situation but also leaving them with a lack of performance opportunities at a crucial time when they wish to be building their audiences and career experience.  As a Trust, we were keen to find ways to help our artists to make the most of the focus on online streaming to audiences not able to attend venues.

Our Recital Scheme artist, Dan Shao, performed last year at the Leicester International Music Festival and was engaged to do so again this year.  The Festival took the decision to move its concerts online and Dan will feature in two of those concerts: on Thursday 17th September at 8pm he will perform in Animal Banter for flute, cello and piano by Eleanor Alberga with Laura van der Heijden and Anna Tilbrook, and on Friday 18th September at 11am Dan will perform Mark Simpson’s Miniatures for solo flute.  The concerts will be available on the Leicester Festival YouTube Channel – please visit the Festival website for access.

The team at Leicester Festival, led by their artistic director Nicholas Daniel (himself a former beneficiary of the Munster Trust), saw an opportunity to help other Recital Scheme artists, and a collaboration between the Festival was set up whereby the recording facilities and venue used for the Festival would be made available to our artists, funded by the Trust, each artist recording a full concert programme.  The recordings took place right at the beginning of September, under the difficult circumstances of the strict regulations applying to Leicester at that time.  The end result will be a series of lunchtime concerts for streaming from October through to December, each concert featuring one or more of our outstanding Recital Scheme artists – once again these will be available through the Leicester Festival YouTube Channel.

We will confirm the programme for each concert in due course but in the meantime can let you know the provisional schedule:
